My favourite topic in year 5

Solar System




I have really enjoyed the solar system project this term and I was very into the different types of planets and how close they are to the sun.

I thought it was fascinating about Saturn’s rings, and how they spun around, and they were made of ice and rock. One of my favourite planets was Jupiter, the biggest planet, with its red eye and all the patterns on it. The funniest planet had to be Uranus!!!

I was really pleased that my solar system presentation was up on display.

It was fun in the solar system assembly. I enjoyed being one of the crew members and really liked my part of the assembly. I learned a lot with my dad helping me to make my space helmet, I made mine out of an old ball and papier mache it was really fun!

Rory's Lyme Regis Fossil Festival

My dad and I went back to Lyme Regis during the recent bank holidays. This is the time of the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival. This years theme was "Evolution Rocks" The picture above shows me and my mates hunting for fossils on monmoth beach. I found a Lima shell, which is basicly like a giant clam, on this day.

The photo at the top shows Charles Darwin, me and the Dodo..... they told me why the Dodo became extinct and sang songs about it and even told me a couple of limericks. I wish I could remember them.

Then the other photo shows a very funny show about a big fossil dinosaur called a Icthiosaurous . The guy was showing us how to feed icthiosaurous's crisps..!!! They were very funny.

Hard Rock Guitars ( Pins..!!)

I have been collecting pins for a couple of years now, and have a total of 259 different ones. I divide them into different catagories.

There are the ones related to and from the Olympics. Then there are others from different countries and famous places. From as far away as New Zealand to the USA. I keep my Olympic ones on a cork board and the other ones on Straw Cowboy hats from Texas USA.

I also have a collection of Hard Rock Cafe Pins, which I keep in a special Pin Collectors bag. I have one flap for each country. The Dubai and Egypt ones are almost full.

In the photograph I have put together all my guitar pins, they are from China, Beruit, Cairo, London, Dubai and the USA. Maybe one day I will bring them in for show and tell.

My B'day party

Hi people of 5kon,

Over the holidays I had my birthday and party. Corynn, Hazel and Emily all came to my house for a sleep-over, Corynn gave my one-hundred dirhams for my present, Hazel gave me two horrible science experiments where you can make your own sick and make your own slugs, however Emily gave me something completely different she got me a skull and cross-bone bag and baggage card which was awesome!

Then on the 18th of April which was obviously my party at the Dubai Autodrome near Arabian Ranches. We met Tomas, Rory and Oisin there, they gave me awesome presents to, Tomas gave me one-hundred dirhams, Rory gave me this awesome box which was purple and red where I got put all my nick-nacks into it and Oisin also gave me one-hundred dirhams, so thats basically 300 dirhams.

We had to go into a place called an airlock room where we were shown how to hold the laser-gun and how to put our special jacket on. We got to choose our teams we were the blue team an the other were the yellow team. We had a fab time after the party we went to Pizza Hut to eat our tea, and unfortunetely we had a little accident with Emily walking into the door.

Anyway we had a good time!

My Easter Holiday

Over the holidays we stayed in Dubai. I spent alot of time at Jebel Ali Beach Resort. I love it there because there's lots to do like play football with big goal posts, and when I'm hot and sweaty I can go and jump in the pool.
There are 3 swimming pools and one of them plays music underwater! The other 2 have pool bars where I can order my own icecream, YUM!
Later on in the sports bar there's lots of other sports to play in there too, like badminton, table tennis, squash and pool. And if I'm lucky I get to watch football on the big screen. Sometimes I play 9 holes of golf with my Dad, and sometimes Greg and his Dad come along too.

Last weekend we took our boat out which we keep at Jebel Ali Marina. My brother was 18 and we took some of his friends so that they could go water skiing.
I went on the ring and had a great time SPLASHING THROUGH THE WAVES behind the boat.
I also got to drive!!!
Jebel Ali is one of my favorite places in Dubai!

My Holiday in England

In England on the first day we got to my mum's,mum and dad's house at about 9:00 or 10:00 at night. Then the next day we went out side to go and see the tree house. On our first night we had fish and chips! We betted on horses for the Grand National but none of us won anything! Two day's before Easter Ashleigh,David,Jill and Barry came over at about 8:30 at night. We stayed up and greeted them then we got to stay up untill 9:00 at night. On Easter we didn't see any egg's untill 10:00 in the morning. We were just sitting in my mum's bedroom then natasha said "there is egg's on the floor" and we found about 22 egg's,we got 2 presents, a bag and hand cream and the other present was a birthday reminder book. On Easter Monday we put some money on some more horses, i betted on Dusty Dane and i won 1 pound 75 pence, my horse came second. A couple days later Ashleigh,David,Jill and Barry went back to Devon. We got an apple tree and planted it in my Nana's new garden we also made some hanging baskets for the front of the house. We went to Anglesea to the beach and we found 3 raser shell's we also skimmed stones with my Pots. The next day we bought a dessert apple tree and a sweet cherry tree,then we planted the tree's it was hard work digging the hole. A couple of days later we got ready to go to the airport, we got back to Dubai at 1:00 in the morning. We had a days rest then it was time to go back to school. I had a lovely easter holiday break.

Rorys Super Swimming Sport Report (RSSSR)

Last Thursday the school swim team set off

to JAPS (Jebal Ali Primary school) for an

inter school swim gala.

We all swam hard and in the end we got the

result we wanted we won.!!! The next day

there was a different gala, a club one and

Hazel, Lottie, Matthew and I were in it. Again

we swam well and we all won a few medals.

Well done KINGS DUBAI.

World Cup Rugby 7's Shock

At the weekend I went to the World Cup 7's Rugby.
I went on all three days and it was great fun. However
when it came to the Quarter finals the favorites (England,
New Zealand, Fiji and South Africa)were all beaten and
Wales won the cup beating Argentina in the final.

Every Saturday I go with my next door neighbour Sam to the Rashid School for boys...... we have belonged to a rugby training
squad there for about two years and today we were met with a very nice surprise. As our game finished we noticed two teams of fully grown men going to one of the other training fields. One of the team were dressed in red and the others were dressed in blue. After our game, our coach told us who they were, Wales and Scotland! We watched them play a practise game. It was great.
They were so big, so fast and the passing was amazing. When the game was over, Sam and I went over and got all the Scottish signatures, and most of the Welsh ones as well. They asked me who I was going to support next week, and in my English jersey I told them to guess!!

Hey guys,
I was reading a book about space and I found out about these clusters of stars called quasars. They are usually found in the centers of galaxies, but the closest ones are billions of miles away. The quasar furthest away from us is right on the edge of our known universe, 11 billion miles away. And, the quasars have the same brightness as 100 galaxies all together. The quasars were actually named Quasistellar Radio Sources (star-like radio sources) but the name was soon shortened down. Shortly after being named, it was found out that about one percent of quasars really generate radio waves. The quasars are black holes sucking in gas clouds and creating so much friction that they start to burn.

Anyone want to buy a Car Boot.

On friday morning just after dark, we headed up to Kings Dubai School for the car boot sale. Do you know...there wasn't a single Car boot for sale, but there was everything else including action figures, dolls, books, toy cars, pictures. posters, clothes, dart bords, board games, puzzles, Real Elephants, food, magazines, CD's and alot-lot more. It was great fun to have a stall and have to have to haggle with the customers. We sold everything except the barbie doll jeep and a brocken advent tree. It was a real fun way to spend a morning and a great way to sort you cupboards out. Get a table next time and make some money !!!

My first day at Kings Dubai
On Monday morning I had to wake up early because it was my first day at my new school Kings Dubai. I was very nervous but also excited. When we were standing outside waiting for the gates to open I met a friendly girl called Hazel. My first impression of Kings was it looked like a big office block but when I walked in I was surprised to see it looked like a normal school! I was still nervous about this new school but it got better once I met all the girls and my new teacher Mr O’Neill. After a while in class it felt like I had been there forever. I really enjoyed my school day and I was very glad that I have chosen Kings.

WE'RE IN FINALS DAY

The year 5 Kings Dubai football team (Matthew B, Matthew S, Adam O, Adam B, Trevor, TomW, Tomas FB and me) have made it to the Dubai football finals tournament which will be held at Sheik Rashid School for boys on the 14th Jan. I'm really proud that we've made it, by beating other teams like JPS and Raffles.
If you want to come along and watch, you can!!! Wish us luck!!

My favourite present was my 'Rocker' it's a three wheeled bike and it's low on the ground and if you want to steer it all you have to do is lean to the right to move to the right and lean to the left to obviously move to the left. It's really cool and I really like it!
